Applied Research Activities in AFPRO Focal Areas

APPRO has conducted studies under different ongoing projects as a part of Applied Research activities.  These studies are carried out to achieve the outcomes and impacts of these projects.   These studies include one impact assessment study, one value chain analysis, one labour monitoring survey, one assessment of survival rates of plants under an agroforestry project, one Detailed Project Report, and one gender study of Small Tea Growers. We have also developed a Management Information System to collect and collate data generated by our projects. This will help track progress against project indicators, and quantify the impacts of various AFPRO interventions, etc in our focal areas.  Details of these studies are as follows:

  1. Gender Study for Small Tea Growers of Assam

The Small Tea Growers Sustainability Program operates in two districts, Tinsukia and Dibrugarh, in Assam. Around 1226 STGs are associated with this Program. The study aims to understand their roles in the tea value chain and their access to and control over natural and productive resources, health, and well-being.

  1. Commodity Value chain Analysis for establishing Nano enterprises

The primary objective of this study is to finalize products for Selected SHGs and to analyse and map the entire value chain of products to be produced by Self-Help Groups. This includes identifying key stakeholders, understanding the processes involved from production to consumption, assessing the added value at each stage, and identifying opportunities for improving efficiency, profitability, and sustainability.  The study is conducted as part of the ongoing project “Climate Change Adaption Measures for Promotion of Livelihood of Rural Tribal Farmers through Agriculture and allied sector intervention”.

  1. Impact Assessment study of Jeevika Samriddhi III

The end-line assessment covers the effectiveness of interventions, lessons learned, and best practices.

  1. Detailed Project Report on Integrated Community Development

The study objective was to assess the need to facilitate program design for the holistic development of the villages along with a baseline study to understand the quality of life of intended beneficiaries for future comparative reference.  The study developed and finalized plans through a consultative and iterative process.

  1. Assessment of survival rates of plants under the Agroforestry Programme

As part of the Carbon Booster / Agroforestry Project, around 10 varieties of plants were distributed to identified farmers in four southern states. After the completion of Phase I of the project, the survival rate of these plants was analyzed so that corrective measures could be taken in the next Phase.

  1. Labour Monitoring System: Improving the Living standards of cotton farming workers

AFPRO has been working with cotton farmers for nearly a decade.  Because of the presence of many farmers in this sector, there might be issues related to human resource management. To have proactive interventions associated with labourer’s issues, this study was undertaken to identify problems and suggest special measures/ interventions to enhance the quality of life of farmers.
