DPR and Feasibility Studies

TECHNICAL SERVICES BY AFPRO: 

APPRO has conducted several technical studies based on the requirement of the project area and funding partner. These studies play a key role to develop unified plan for execution of the activities considering the diverse facets of nature, available natural resources and social resources. The planning process integrates the social, economic and ecological concerns that could impact the overall management plan to achieve desired outcomes. These studies have been carried out under supervision of an experienced team of Natural Resource Management Specialist, Civil Engineer, Geo-hydrologist, Agriculturist and with support of local Social/Community Mobilizer. These services majorly includes Water Balance Study, Hydrogeological Study, Technical Feasibility Study, Detailed project report-DPR preparation, Rapid Land Assessment, GIS/Remote sensing based study. Summary of these studies is given below:

 

  1. Detailed Project Report on Integrated Community Development Program (ICDP)

Funding Partner: Larsen & Toubro Limited

Location: Shirodi Cluster Kannad Block, Aurangabad

Duration:  July 2024

AFPRO conducted Under its Corporate Social Responsibility, Larsen and Toubro Limited (L&T Ltd.) initiated ‘Integrated Community Development Programme (ICDP) in 7 villages of Kannad block of Aurangabad district in Marathwada region of Maharashtra. L&T Ltd. identified cluster in a semi-arid region, part of Shivana River catchment which comprise mainly agrarian community. The land is surrounded by ridges, land having irregular slope and undulating topography. AFPRO partnered with L&T Ltd and conducted a needs assessment and technical survey to conducted prepare DPR for 7 village with main objective of preparing a holistic village development plan focusing on natural resource management and livelihoods. The following interventions were carried out under the study in each of the 7 villages:

 Objectives and Scope of DPR-

  • Need assessment within each development domain to facilitate program design for the holistic development of the villages
  • Baselining the quality of life of intended beneficiaries for future comparative reference
  • Developing and finalizing development plans through consultative and iterative process

 

  1. Feasibility assessment of the selected villages at Nuh

Funding Partner: ITC Limited.

Location: Nuh, Haryana

Duration:  March 2023

Action for Food Production had conducted a feasibility study in 10 project villages. The aim of the study was to conduct feasibility assessment of the selected villages and develop overall strategy to build the capacity of the farming community located in selected villages through systematic management of water resources and other natural resource. The study was comprised of following specific objectives.

  • Assessment of geo-hydrological and socio-demographic conditions of the area.
  • Identification of potential interventions to improve Natural Resource base like water, soil, and bio-diversity.
  • Development of a sequential plan for sustainable development of natural resources and improvement of agriculture and livelihoods
  1. Feasibility Study on Potential for Water Management at Chad.

Funding Partner: IDH- The Sustainable trade Initiative Netherlands

Location: Southern Chad.

Duration: December 2022

AFPRO conducted the study with the support of the local office of IDH and its local partner, Cotontchad (CTSN) during the month of December 2022. It was an extensive assessment covering large geography of southern Chad, broadly known as the Sudanian region, covering 33 villages from 22 cantons belonging to seven prefectures. The main purpose of the study was to assess the potential of augmenting and conserving water resources for ensuring drinking water security in the first place, and improving availability and access of water resources for productive purposes (agriculture and livestock), as a bonus.

  1. Detailed Project Report (DPR) on Integrated Watershed, Livelihood Project through Diversified and Integrated Socio-Agri practices at Lanjigarh.

Funding Partner: Vedanta Limited.

State: Lanjigarh, Odisha

Duration: May 2022 to August 2022

A detailed study in 46 village’s lies in the periphery of 15 to 25 km from Vedanta Plant area, Lanjigarh covering an approximate 13668.5 acres of land. The objective of DPR study was to contribute towards development of the vulnerable communities surrounding Vedanta’s factory site and create a road map for improving socio-economic status of the target communities through systematic management of natural resources in watershed approach and providing livelihood enhancement opportunities. Indiscriminate exploitation of natural resources coupled with poor cropping pattern has negatively impacted the socio-economic status of the rural poor. Tribal in particular have endured more suffering due to their isolation from the mainstream, there is an urgent need felt to resolve the crisis being faced by the poor farming families. In order to assess the situation a detailed survey through participatory tools like Participatory Rural Appraisal, Household Survey, existing water infrastructure survey, drinking water infrastructure, Agriculture land etc. were conducted.

  1. Detailed Project Report (DPR) on Integrated Community Development Project at Coimbatore.

Funding Partner: Larsen and Toubro Limited

Location: Pachapalayam cluster, Tamil Nadu

Duration: August to October, 2022

A feasibility study to prepare DPR for Pachapalayam  cluster on watershed basis was conducted. The study was initiated in August, 2022 by a multi – disciplinary  technical team and to comprehend the present situation in each village and assess the need of the  community to prioritize the activities required to be taken up for implementation. The aim is to achieve sustainable development, by planning relevant activities related to natural resource management and Water resource management will improve the water quality in the villages as well as agriculture will also be revived with the planned interventions. This DPR aimed to achieve the following objectives to serve the villages:

  • Assessing the issues related to land, water and bio mass development and deriving plan for enhancement and assessing the water balance of the proposed cluster
  • Developing a sustainable plan to improve the quality of life in the cluster area
  • To revive agriculture sector and enhance income through agriculture 
  1. Detailed Project Report (DPR) on “Agriculture Project through Land & Water Management”

Funding Partner: Vedanta Limited.

Location: Sambalpur district of Odisha

Duration: June to August, 2022

The goal of the project was to conduct a comprehensive study to improve the sustainable livelihood and standard of living of the farming community through adaptation of “climate smart agricultural practices” and it’s allied interventions in selected cluster of 21 project villages of 3 blocks viz., Jharsuguda, Kolabira blocks of Jharsuguda district and Rengali block of Sambalpur district of Odisha”

Following were the specific objectives of the DPR:

  • To increase the secured irrigational facilities in the project area through creating soil and water conservation structures.
  • To secure/protect kharif crops during lean period of monsoon season or during monsoon gap.
  • To increase the area under cultivation for second crop through creating supplementary irrigation facility namely solar, drip etc.
  • To promote sustainable agriculture/climate smart agricultural practices through adoption of irrigation system, better crop management practices such as water management, IPM, INM etc and develop market linkages.
  • To build the capacities of local institutions/CBOs (water user groups, farmer’s producer group, VDC, farmer’s producer groups etc.) for better living conditions, opportunities for development and sustaining interventions.
  1. Detailed project report (DPR) on water resource development at Chanderiya

Funding Partner: Hindustan Zinc Limited

State: Rajasthan

Duration: October 2021 to January 2022

Action for Food Production conducted a feasibility study to make ten operating villages of Hindustan Zinc Limited in Chanderiya water sufficient. The major objective of the study was to prepare Detailed Project Report by conducting feasibility study and develop detailed plan for ‘Water Resource Development’ to make operating villages water sufficient by increasing its availability and improving its quality which will enhance living standards of the community.

Specific objectives of the study were:

  • Assessment of existing water resources, estimating its storage capacity and exploring the possibilities of enhancing it.
  • Identification of potential water harvesting structure sites and estimation of storage capacity using RS and GIS.
  • To prepare baseline data and watershed management plan along with designs, estimates and budgeting of water harvesting structures for area treatment and drainage line treatment.
  • Developing a sequential plan for construction of water harvesting structures.
  1. DPR: Detailed project report (DPR) on water resource development at Debari

Funding Partner: Hindustan Zinc Limited

Location: Rajasthan

Duration: October 2021 to January 2022

Action for Food Production conducted a feasibility study to make eight operating villages of Hindustan Zinc Limited in Debari water sufficient. This study was conducted from October, 2021 to January, 2022. The major objective of the study was to prepare Detailed Project Report by conducting feasibility study and develop a plan to make operating villages of HZL water sufficient by increasing its availability and improving its quality to enhance living standards of the community.
